Know Your Travel "Why"

Whatever you do in life it is important to know why you do what you do. What fuels you? What get’s you excited? What are you passionate about and what gets you out of bed in the morning? When you know your why, then you know your direction. Life has a way of testing us and getting us to questions things. Someone is rude to us or we step out in a new life venture and don’t get much appaluse or interest in what we are doing. In the moments when life is throwing us a tough curve ball and circumstances aren’t in our favour, its good to know our purpose and why we want what we want.

Especially if you are like me and you are starting out with this whole travel blogging thing. The money isn’t exactly rolling in, in fact you are paying out money to invest in your blog. You are doing your best to save up a big chunk of money for travel and investing a lot of your time into it. At the end of the day it all comes down to “why.” Why all the blood, sweat, tears, writer’s block, self doubt and wondering why you got into travel writing in the first place. Travel blogging can and does feel like an uphill climb. My friends I’ll say it again, know your “why.”

My Why

As well, I have been thinking and pondering a lot about why I do what I do and why I love travel so much. My biggest reason would be that I have a huge passion and desire for travel. I love the excitement and trill of getting on a plane and going somewhere knew. I love languages and different cultures. The desire to live in a foreign country and embrace the world has been burning in my heart since I was a teenager. The quote which I have pasted a picture of below says it all. I am in love with cities I’ve never been to and people I’ve never met. I believe we were all created with a purpose. There is a loving God that created us with dreams and desires that are meant to come true. All the junk of everyday life has a way of chocking the life and dreams out of us. The things we loved and longed for a little children seem to get buried with the demands of adulthood. And that is why we must fight. First for our lives and the dreams of our heart. I have carried a dream to live and spend a year abroad in another country for so long. Often there are fears that get in the way of this. I know in other posts I’ve written about the benefits of short term travel and having a home base. Yet this insatiable desire to just live overseas keeps coming up. This is something that I will examine over the next few months. Stay tuned readers, maybe I’ll be heading to New Zealand on a working holiday.

Hi Kelly, Thanks so much! Yes I believe its super important to have a direction in life. Even if that direction changes courses and charts a completely different course. We as people need goals and aspirations to live and reach for.

Great topic! Everyone has their own independent reason for travelling but essentially it boils down to the same thing, experiencing something new and different. For me it’s getting to know people from different cultures. It’s so interesting to hear their stories!
